Making things better for our young cancer patients and their families…

When your child has cancer and you are waiting to see their specialist, it is an anxious time for all the family. To make things a little better for children in our waiting areas, your donations to University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire Charity have funded £11,500 to improve our Children’s Outpatients and Oncology waiting areas.

Children attend for a range of treatments including Cancer, Leukaemia, Diabetes and Cystic Fibrosis. In any given week, fifty to one hundred children come through the waiting area. Many of these children visit weekly for several years over the course of their treatment.

Previously the waiting area was bland, and clinical – not a space that children or their parents felt relaxed or at ease in.

Staff wanted to create a friendlier and calming environment for the children and their parents. When the children were asked what they wanted the waiting area to look like they requested bright colours, bold designs, pictures on the walls and more comfortable seating.

The response to the make-over of these waiting areas has been amazing!  As well as being less clinical it also provides a social area which allows children and parents to engage in activities together, taking their minds off any worries.

Being in hospital is hard enough for children and their families – the money that YOU donated has made our waiting areas so much better.

Thank You!
