Forty miles over four days across three countries, an intrepid team of fundraisers have completed a gruelling challenge in aid of UHCW Charity

The team of Mont Blanc trekkers crossed the borders of France, Italy and Switzerland while ascending nearly 1,000m into the mountains (the equivalent of walking up the Eiffel Tower three times each day).

Nurses, consultants, physios, chaplains, ODPs and external supporters all took part, helping to raise more than £15,000! for your local hospitals.

Money raised will go towards making things better for UHCW staff, patients and their families. You can still donate to the team page here

Heather Tysall, Consultant Nurse in Acute Medicine, said: “I’m so proud to have been part of the UHCW Mont Blanc Trek Challenge.

“It was a way of showing my appreciation and thanks to the Charity team for providing an incredible amount of wellbeing support to staff at UHCW, in particular those in my area of Acute Medicine during the unprecedented times of Covid-19.

From personal experience, 12 years ago following a car accident, I was admitted to the hospital via the Emergency Department Resus room and spent a subsequent seven days in the trauma ward recovering.

Having been on both sides of the fence, I understand the needs and the support that the Charity offers from both the clinical and the patient perspective.

Thanks to the help from the staff at UHCW, I am still able to push myself physically and this trek certainly did that!”

UHCW Charity partnered with Meriden-based Sky Blue Adventures, who helped to make the event happen and guided our team across the Alps.

Jo O’Sullivan, UHCW Charity Director, added: “It was a tough challenge for every one of us, but we all supported each other through rain and shine!  We are already planning our next trek – join us to make things better for our patients and their families”

“I must say it was an amazing trip, I’m 110% happy that I decided to join the Mont Blanc Trekkers team. It is still a blur but watching the challenge video makes it feel more real! I can’t thank or praise the team enough, they were fantastic. I would recommend signing up for a challenge by UHCW Charity; you get an incredible experience whilst raising money for an equally incredible cause!” – Jayne, Mont Blanc Trekker 2022
