When Lisa Kent started to plan her 50th birthday celebrations, she knew she wanted to use it as an opportunity to continue to fundraise for the Neurosciences Department.

Having raised money for the unit previously Lisa was keen to do even more to support the team, and so she set to work organising a fabulous 50th birthday party to celebrate the occasion. But instead of gifts, Lisa asked friends and family to donate to UHCW Charity instead.

Lisa, from Nuneaton, knows first-hand the incredible care the Neurosciences team provide.

“I first came under the care of a Neurosurgeon at UHCW in 2004 when I was diagnosed having a brain tumour. From then on, I have continued to have numerous surgical interventions and procedures, including a Hydrocephalus Shunt, and complex medical problems requiring the support of many Consultants at UHCW.

At present I have the support of three Consultants within Neurosciences who help me to manage my complex health problems whilst living with an Acquired Brain Injury. The support I have received has been truly fantastic and it has inspired me to fundraise and put something back into the department that has given me so much strength.

My friends and family appreciate just how much Neurosciences do for me and at birthdays they donate money to the department. This year was a milestone birthday and on reaching the big 50 I wanted to say a huge thank you for the Neuro team. In particular I am grateful for the generous support from businesses and Consultants Rahim Hussain and Louise Price”

Lisa approached many local businesses for support and received some fabulous prizes for a raffle from companies like Turtle Bay, Next, Tesco, Co Op, Babyliss, Asda and Marks and Spencer. As well as this, TK Maxx made a donation of £500 to help boost Lisa’s fundraising efforts.

Overall the night raised an amazing £3424.70, bringing Lisa’s fundraising total to £4544.70. Lisa presented this to Consultant Neurosurgeon Mr Rahim Hussain at University Hospital in May.

Lisa’s fundraising will make a direct difference to our Neurosciences department, helping to make things better for our patients and their families. If you would like to support Lisa’s fundraising, you can donate here
