University Hospital's General Fund Awards Programme

Every four months we invite applications for up to £10,000 that will fund an innovative idea that will have a positive impact upon patients in University Hospital. 

Awards timetable

Subject to the balance of the  University Hospital General Fund  there are  three application rounds in  a year. University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire Charity usually opens the application process round 4 weeks before the deadline. The deadlines are  usually:


It is the aim of the fund advisers to consider the applications and award funding within one month of the submission deadline. The funding for those who have been successful must be claimed with in one month of notification with the project implemented with in three months.

Grant value

The maximum level of grant that can be applied for is £10,000. Most grants are much smaller than the maximum amount stated.

Please note: The total value that will be awarded is subject to the fund balance at time of the application round.


This grants programme does not include grants to support research, the Hospital of St Cross or Coventry Partnership NHS Trust as University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire Charity holds separate Charitable Funds for these purposes.

Grants will not be awarded  from the University Hospitals General Fund  to wards or departments in University Hospital where a Special Purposes Fund operates to support the ward or department and where it has sufficient fund balance to meet the cost of the request.

Decision making

The decision making group includes the Head of UHCW Charity and the two Fund Advisers  who are the Chief Human Resources Officer and Chief Executive Officer of University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. 

Number of awards given

The fund advisers will decide the total value of funding to be released each round based on the fund balance and quality of applications.
