Sikh Union Goes the Extra Mile for Breast Cancer Appeal

As work starts on the new Breast Cancer Unit in the City of Coventry Health Centre the Sikh Union has donated £1,001 to help complete UHCW Charity’s £400,000 Breast Cancer Unit Appeal target.

Almost at its completion, the Appeal will ensure that an additional 10,000 women are screened over each 3 year screening cycle, by funding the new breast screening unit equipped with the latest technology and making a third mobile breast screening van available to travel throughout the county of Warwickshire.   Together, this means that local women will receive their breast cancer diagnosis and treatments quickly and lives will be saved.

Lady Godiva, Pru Porretta,  joined Jaswinder Mathura, Bali Pansar and Maninder Kaloti from the Sikh Union to  present their  donation to Adela Appleby Head of UHCW Charity.

“The Sikh Union does amazing work” Adela said “and we are thrilled that they wanted to get behind the appeal and help us to provide a new breast screening unit in Coventry”

Bali Panesar of Sikh Union added “The funds were raised by a charity walk in the War Memorial park during Vaisakhi celebrations. We are glad to contribute towards the funding of the new screening unit which will benefit thousands of women locally, in Coventry and Warwickshire”

Coventry’s Sikh Union was recently awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service which is the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK. The award recognises the organisation’s work supporting people of all ages in their local community and overseas.  This has included helping to save the Daimler Green community centre in Radford; with the restoration of a local church and supporting University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire Charity with enhancing the care of local NHS patients; as well as eye camps in India and bore holes in Kenya.
